Equinix Australia managing director Tony Simonsen is due to leave the data centre company for a new role as Avaya Australia and New Zealand managing director next month.
He starts in the role on 7 April 2014 and will continue to be based in Sydney.
Simonsen had worked at Equinix Australia for over two years and spearheaded a number of projects including a $66 million, 105,000 square foot data centre in Melbourne which is due for completion in December 2014.
Prior to Equinix, he worked at Pitney Bowes for over three years as A/NZ managing director.
According to Avaya Asia Pacific president Mike Muller, he wanted a candidate with a "track record of success" in the technology sector.
“Tony has all the credentials, knowledge and leadership skills to take our business forward. I am looking forward to seeing an even more significant contribution to our business coming from this region,” he said in a statement.
An Equinix spokesperson confirmed that Simonsen would be leaving the company on 26 March.
"Candidates are currently being considered for the role. We will make an announcement when an appointment has been made," the spokesperson said.
In the meantime, Equinix Asia Pacific vice president of sales Doug Oates will oversee the Australian business.
"Equinix wishes Tony the best for his future role," added the spokesperson.
