IDC: Security Appliance Market Growth Slows Slightly in Q2 2012

Both factory revenue and unit shipments grew in the second quarter of 2012, according to research firm IDC, with worldwide factory revenue recording an increase of 6.3 percent year-over-year to just under US$ 2.0 billion, and shipments increasing 6.5 percent to 496,697 units.

Gartner: A Third of Consumers' Digital Content Will be in the Cloud by 2016

The desire to share content and to access it on multiple devices will motivate consumers to start storing a third of their digital content in the cloud by 2016, according to Gartner. Gartner said that just 7 percent of consumer content was stored in the cloud in 2011, but this will grow to 36 percent in 2016.

SMB Adoption Of Virtualization to Outpace Enterprises: Survey

According to a recent survey conducted by disaster recovery and data protection solutions provider Acronis, small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) around the world are planning to adopt server virtualization in 2012 at a faster pace than large enterprises. However, the survey also identified widespread backup and disaster recovery shortcomings for virtual servers amongst SMBs. Meanwhile, previous enthusiasm for cloud infrastructure has, at least so far, failed to turn into reality.
