Kleos Space appoints ground station service provider in preparation for revenue generation
ASX-listed radio frequency reconnaissance data provider Kleos Space (ASX: KSS) has appointed Norwegian ground station service provider Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) as it prepares for revenue generation.
KSAT is a leading provider of communication services for spacecraft and launch vehicles with an extensive and uniquely located global ground network. KSAT also provides advanced monitoring services. Kleos’ Scouting Mission satellites are on track to launch into low Earth orbit from New Zealand by the end of Q2 2019, initially transmitting observation data to KSAT’s downlink ground station Svalbard in Norway. Kleos Data-as-a-Service product will begin generating revenue following the successful collection of data.
The multi-satellite Scouting Mission system will form the foundation of a constellation that delivers a global picture of hidden maritime activity, enhancing the intelligence capability of governments and commercial entities when AIS (Automatic Identification System) is defeated, imagery unclear or targets out of patrol range. This independent activity-based intelligence, geolocation Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) will enable governments to detect and locate activity such as drug and people smuggling, illegal fishing and piracy, and identify those needing search and rescue at sea.

The ground station service provider appointment builds on the company entering the testing phase in preparation for final acceptance after successfully passing the Test Readiness Review milestone with GomSpace A/S – Kleos’ nanosatellite specialist construction partner.
This incorporates system documentation, interface control documentation, Radio Frequency (RF) subsystems, budgets, verification planning, acceptance test plans and criteria, RF test procedures, downlink test plans, geolocation payload verification, end-to-end test procedures and hardware availability.
The Scouting Mission satellites will then enter the Final Acceptance phase before launch.
