Sales path for innovative young web designers

Will Digby, 21 is an impressive young man. At 19 he has was ranked 16th in the world for a computer game called Unreal Tournament, (played by millions world wide), he has been a champion kick boxer, competing professionally in Thailand, and in 2000 also fulfilled a childhood promise to his best friend Tom McCubbin, relative of the famous Australian artist, to go into business together.

His company SK Design was started in a loft two years ago with a $900 loan and its clients now include ING Real estate, General Electric, Mars Incorporated, Asian Pacific Development Corporation, Melbourne Property Auctions and Cadbury Schweppes.

Now comfortably located in one of Melbourne’s most prestigious office buildings, St. Kilda Road Towers at 1 Queens Rd, SK Design’s latest innovation has been the software development for an interactive internet sales program for Australian Mortgage Brokers – Mortgage Match that has increased online sales closures by 200%.

As the internet user is keying in the key answers to financial questions on their Mortgage, an SMS message is sent to a salesman who then can follow up the lead without going back to the office or needing to download from a computer. The text message is a precise of all the key elements and the clients contact details, to facilitate super quick response and turnaround times.

“This type of internet response system is relevant to so many sales situations and we can adapt the software to suite any application” says Will.

“The speed of response to applications has equated to a 200 per cent increase in closure of sales for our client in the past few months. A huge positive impact to the bottom line.”

“This system also provides a commission tracking system so those who make contact first are given the sales commission, giving peace of mind to the salespeople.”

Will has also just developed Melbourne’s first lift advertising software program where all tenants and retailers in the building – St. Kilda Road Towers, 1 Queens Rd, where SK Design also has its offices - can advertise in the lift and waiting areas.

The program will have real time control. As an example, the chefs at the eateries are able to update the daily specials in real time, from their own computers, “advertisers” can book ahead and interact with the system rather than going through an administrator.

Another project is for off-site home auctions where the bidder will be able to read the current bid price on a big screen, with an interactive display of the residence.

Central to the success of SK Design has been the technology available at Melbourne’ largest office suite building – the Asian Pacific Development Corporation’s St. Kilda Road Towers, 1 Queens Road, Melbourne.

Walk into Will’s offices today and two new staff members are meeting around the Boardroom table discussing the work load of their 50 plus web based clients.

Some discussion is taking place around the rights to their innovative software, and the mentor role that Asian Pacific has already played in the success of their business.

APT the telecommunication arm of Asian Pacific has introduced Will and his team to IBM and Cisco, who are following Will’s IP Phone based software development.

“Being in an up market office has really helped us deal with the top end of town, apart from the benefits of networking with the other tenants in the building. We may from time to time come in to the office looking pretty casual but the professionalism we present to the outside world is so important to broker the big deals.” says Will.
