Hackers win BlackBerry JamHack 2012 with ride-sharing app for businesses
'Team Hive' emerged victorious from a 40-hour hackathon staged by BlackBerry makers RIM. The event, held in Melbourne and beginning on 19 October, involved teams competing to build an app for the forthcoming BlackBerry 10 mobile platform. Team Hive members Edward Hooper, Lyn Nagara and Brendan Graetz took out first place in BlackBerry JamHack 2012, winning a trip to compete at BlackBerry Jam Asia in Thailand.
The winning app, Hive, helps an organisation's employees share taxis to cut travel costs.
“The team’s app, Hive, is a clever system which allows employees in an organisation to easily access a ridesharing network for taxi trips in order to cut down on costs involved for corporate travel. We hope the team can take out the title for Australia at Blackberry Jam Asia in Bangkok.”
